Substance Abuse
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen. –Reinhold Niebuhr
We have all heard the first part of this prayer. It can be found on coffee mugs, posters, notepads, and bible covers. It is often recited at 12-Step meetings and in treatment groups. Those words have been heard around the world.
But, how many people have heard the second half of this very common prayer? That is where the real instructions for living a life in recovery occur. How do you think your recovery would be different if you incorporated the second half of this prayer in your journey to sobriety? I challenge you to try. See if doing so makes it easier for you allowing our Lord to take our burdens as His yoke is easy, His burdens are light.
Join us at Life & Work Soulutions as we utilize the healing power of Christ as the tool to help you recover and overcome your addictions.
